All athletes need to produce strength and power in complex positions in order to perform at high levels. This even more true for Water Polo athletes due to not having the ground as catalyst to generate power. This is where the use of functional strength training plays such a vital role in the athletic’s ability as a Water Polo player. Most functional strength training programs have athletes using their body to produce strength and power from a stable (land-based) or unstable (water/sand) environments.
Incorporating land-based functional strength exercises into a Water Polo player’s exercise routine can develop the athletic’s strength all planes of motion. With an increase in functional strength, an athlete can have increased total body power. Every Water Polo player that is committed to our Peak Performance programs performs numerous progressions of challenging functional strength exercises so that they dominate in the water and this is where is counts!
